Embed Google Calendar on your School Website

Google is brilliant at creating tools which make things easy to do. More and more schools and colleges are using these tools to manage services, assets and resources. One of my favourites is Google Calendar for schools.

Any Google Calendar can be controlled and updated from any device and calendars can be shared with a select group of people or made fully public. Why not create a Google Calendar that covers all the dates in your schools diary? If this is then made public it can be quickly and easily embedded into any page on your site.

Even better ... parents and students can add this calendar to their iPads and smartphones so that every time you update the calendar with important dates and events they are automatically updated on the users device. Seriously, how cool is that??

If you're using Google Apps and Google Docs then why not embed your school or college timetable directly into the body of your Term Dates page? Google make it incredibly easy for you to add this content to your site and it will work well on lots of different devices.

Here's how to embed google calendar on your website:

  1. In the calendar list on the left, click the down-arrow next to the calendar you want to embed, and select Calendar settings. (Alternatively, click the Settings link at the bottom of the calendar list, then click the name of the calendar.)
  2. Copy the iframe code displayed in the Embed This Calendar section.
  3. Paste this code into your website to embed your calendar.

You'll need to make your calendar public - have a read here on how to do this
